Our team received a statement via email from New York City Council Member Shekar Krishnan:

“Our work is done in two ways: investing in Community Based Organizations that pursue and further the mission of rehabilitative justice/community wraparound care/alternatives to incarceration and by supporting legislation that aligns with these goals.

On the Community Based Organizations side, we work to invest in the community and to organizations doing work on the ground to meet individuals where they are and provide them wrap around services following incarceration. Specifically, our office works closely with the Osborne Association and Commonpoint. We also work closely with organizations that support individuals with re-entry and re-integration, especially utilizing community career development programming such as ACE.

The Council Member is not currently sitting on the Committee on Criminal Justice or Public Safety, however we closely consider how all legislation from these committees may affect our previously incarcerated and justice impacted community in NYC."
